Ernest Leonard, September 17, 1938 – November 29, 2016, entered eternal rest at Canora Hospital at the age of 78. Ernie was born in Canora, to parents Lloyd and Catherine Wolkowski (nee Holowachuk).

While living on the family farm, Ernie attended Christiana and Buchanan schools. Ernie met a local Buchanan girl at a social gathering at the Stotski residence in Buchanan. On September 28, 1963, Ernie married Evangeline (Vangy) Wasylowich at St. Anne’s R. C. Church in Buchanan. After they were married, they moved to Buchanan and together they were blessed with 6 children. In early years, Ernie spent his winters in Toronto working in an Auto Body shop. He later farmed with his Dad and worked for G.W. Construction for over 20 years and became a Road Foreman. Ernie also worked a short period for Anderson Rental and Paving. A previous work place accident and health issues forced Ernie into early retirement in1993.

Ernie was a member of the Buchanan Wildlife Federation, and became the first President of the Buchanan Recreation Board. He also served on Buchanan’s Village Council. He had a passion for hunting, fishing, curling, and watching his children in numerous sports activities. Ernie also loved to play cards, spending many a late night, into the early morning with family and friends socializing. He was also a supporter of St. Anne’s R.C. Church in Buchanan. Ernie and Vangy enjoyed travelling to various destinations, but one of Ernie’s most memorable vacations was a trip to Reno, Nevada, where every machine Ernie played, seemed to turn into gold! Ernie's greatest passion though, was the love for his wife Vangy for over 53 years. They created a bond that was evident of endless love and support, especially throughout the last years of Ernie’s diminishing health.

In keeping with Ernie’s wish, a funeral service will be held at a later date.

Ernie is lovingly survived by his wife Vangy, children; Wayne, Bev (Luc) Duplessis, Dale (Lavinia), Christine (Shahin) Mehdizadeh, Dennis (Sue), Wynn (Kevin) Bileski, 12 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Friends who so desire may make memorial donations to the Buchanan Community Centre, 323 2nd Ave East, Buchanan SK S0A 0J0. To leave a note of condolence for the family, please visit Wolkowski.ca.
