Mabel N. Kondratoff of Canora, Saskatchewan, formerly of the Pelly District, passed away peacefully at the Canora Hospital with her children by her side, November 3rd, 2017 at the age of 86. Mabel was raised in Veregin, Saskatchewan. After marrying Paul Kondratoff, her husband of 59 years, in 1951, the couple moved to their farm east of Pelly where they raised purebred Hereford and Charolais cattle. Mabel was never afraid of hard work, an ethic she instilled in each generation following her. Paul and Mabel continued to farm until 2000. During that year, they sold their land, built a house in Canora and settled into retirement.

Mabel is fondly remembered for loving gardening, cooking a world-class bowl of borscht and spending hours on the phone reminiscing with friends, children and grandchildren. Guests visiting her home would be met with a warm greeting from her energetic companion, a Pomeranian named Heidi. To know Mabel was to know somebody whose warm smile radiated from her heart and a soft touch from her soul. You would be lucky to have a cup of coffee with Mabel, who would want to hear your stories first before telling a few of her own. She was a kind and selfless lady who will be missed by those closest to her.

Mabel is predeceased by her husband Paul Kondratoff (2012); her father, Alex A, and mother, Polly F, Chutskoff; and her brother Alex Chutskoff.    She is survived by her sister Joan (Al) Qually, son, Leslie (Marina) Kondratoff, and grandson Sasha (Isabella Castro) Kondratoff; her daughter, Phyllis (Ivan) Olynyk, and grandson Nick Olynyk and granddaughter Roxanne (Mike Stadnyk) Olynyk; and her daughter Olga (Dennis) Penner, and her granddaughter Meredith Penner.

At Mabel’s request no funeral will be held. A private remembrance will be held at a later date. Donations in Mabel’s memory can be made to the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency or to the Canora Hospital’s palliative care program. Arrangements entrusted to Wolkowski Funeral Chapel. To leave a note of condolence for the Kondratoff family, please visit Wolkowski.ca
