Richard Wayne Ducheminsky, also known as "Rixie," was born on June 4, 1957 in Canora, Saskatchewan to Edward and Josephine Ducheminsky. He was a twin to Robert, and a brother to Ron, Doug, Bryant, and Mark. Rick grew up on the farm southwest of Veregin where he attended elementary school. He then went to Kamsack Junior High and graduated in from the Kamsack Collegiate institute in 1975. Rick farmed with his dad and brothers until he decided to seek other opportunities in Alberta. He worked on a road paving crew and had the opportunity to work on the runways at the Edmonton International Airport. He then returned home as his passion for farming was too strong. Rick loved the land and was most proud of keeping his machinery in pristine condition. His helpful nature always led him to assist others and to help out whenever possible. This was especially true in the winters when he always made sure that the roads were plowed. All he had to hear was Baba P’s name and he would be in Veregin right away to plow her driveway and the road in front of her house. Aside from farming, curling was one of his greatest loves. His accomplishments included playing on the high school team, in many different bonspiels, and in the playdowns. His greatest curling moment was curling in the Northern Provincial Playdowns. Rick also loved the Montreal Canadiens, to the dismay of all of his brothers except one (Ron). He had all sorts of Habs memorabilia and was proud to show it to everyone. He frequently visited his Uncle Paul in Kamsack and they would discuss hockey and football for hours. Of course, he loved his Saskatchewan Roughriders. He was a season ticket holder for a number of years and after every game, he phoned his brothers and discussed what happened. He also always helped out twisting rods (that’s cooking shishliki if you didn’t know) at the Veregin Annual Barbeque. Some of his other interests included photography, and in his younger years, golf. Rick was an excellent record keeper; his accounting records for the farm were very, very meticulous. He was also very talented at fixing things, though plumbing was not his forte. While doing some tiling in the bathroom at the farm, he managed to blow the drywall off of his dad’s bedroom wall. And although Rick never caught the travel bug, he did manage to take trips to B.C., Alberta, and all the way to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Although Rick never married, dearest to his heart was his mom, dad, five brothers and being an amazing uncle to his nephews and nieces.

Richard was predeceased by his father Edward, his twin brother Robert, and his niece Tricia. He is survived by his mother Josephine; his brothers Ron (Polly), Doug (Laurie), Bryant (Norma), and Mark (Theresa); his nieces Shelley, Kara, Robbyn, Tiffany, Amanda, and Maddison; and his nephews Jeremy, Dallas, Aiden, Max, and Lucas. While Richard left us suddenly, the rivalry between his Habs and Eddie’s Maple Leafs will continue, and he and Eddie can also continue their discussions on their different views about ways to farm. He will be missed by us all.
