Anne Maksymetz Obituary

Anne Elizabeth Maksymetz was born on May 22, 1926 in Runnymede, SK., the fourth child of Jacob and Emilie Nabe (nee Leis).  Anne was five years old when the family moved to a farm in Manitoba, one and half miles east of Togo, Sk.  Growing up in the great depression was difficult, but there was always food on the table.  Anne attended school in Makaroff, MB., with excellent marks, and she loved school; but due to the times she had to quit after grade eight to earn money for the family.  While continuing living at home, she found work at Mac’s Lunch in Togo, where she met and on June 1, 1949 married the owner Harry Maksymetz.  Together they ran a poolroom, restaurant and grocery and dry goods store in Togo until they retired in 1985.  They were blessed with three cherished children; Harold, Richard (Rick) and Maxine.  Harry passed away on September 6th, 1997 after a long illness with Anne by his side providing excellent care.  Anne remained living in Togo until November 2002, when she bought a home in Kamsack.  She spent many happy years enjoying her house, garden, family and going for coffee with her lady friends.

Throughout her life Anne enjoyed, music  (being an excellent pianist and organist), dancing, organizing events and playing cards, games, reading, puzzles, quilting, crocheting, knitting and sewing, gardening, watching curling (especially if Brad Gushue was playing) and spending time with family and friends.  In addition, she was an outstanding cook and has passed along many of her special recipes to her family.  She always had tips for all of us on how we could do something a little better.

After an eight month battle with cancer, Anne passed away peacefully on November 22, 2018 at the Kamsack Hospital.

Anne is survived by her three children Harold (Maureen), Rick (Karen) and Maxine, five grandchildren Richard (Ashleigh), Christopher, Angie, Catherine (Logan) and Rob (Delia) eight great grandchildren Jasper, Athena, Lennon, Trista, Livi, Lenox, Hunter and Maelie, sisters Mary Gauthier, Ruth Pfeifer, Rosalind Malcolm and Marlene Balabuk (Arnold), brother-in-law Julian Habinski, sister-in-law Georgina Nabe and many nieces and nephews.

Anne is predeceased by her parents Jacob and Emilie Nabe, loving husband of 48 years Harry, brothers Jack Nabe, Alex (Marge) Nabe, sisters Emma Habinski and Elsie Nabe, brothers-in-law Paul Gauthier, Dave Pfeifer and Keith Malcolm.  Of the ten siblings in Harry’s family, Anne was the last surviving member, being predeceased by all of her brothers and sisters-in-law on Maksymetz side.

Now Anne has joined Harry in heaven, and we the family who feel fortunate and blessed to be from that loving union, wish them peace.  We know they are watching over us.
