Welcome to the memorial page for

Donny Hrycenko

January 5, 2018

     HRYCENKO, Donny Dweyn (Hoser) Born December 20, 1955, passed away January 5, 2018 at the age of 62. Donny was born in Benito, Manitoba to John and Helen (Bodnar) Hrycenko. He grew up on the family homestead near Arran in the R.M. of Livingston with his older sister Pat and younger sister Natalie. Donny attended school in Arran and post-secondary school in Regina.

     On June 26, 1976, Donny married the love of his life, Deborah Fedorchuk, and continued to live on his family’s farm, where they eventually built their dream home to raise their four sons – Michael, Jeremy, Evan and Ryan. Donny was an avid curler and a lifelong Saskatchewan Roughriders fan. He worked many enjoyable jobs throughout his career, including positions at Swan Valley Credit Union and Affinity Credit Union, as well as owning an insurance agency. But as much as he loved work and cherished the friends he made through his day-to-day dealings, nothing could top his lifelong passion for farming. Whether he was on the field, in the shop fixing machinery or just chatting about grain prices with friends and family, farming was in his blood. Donny counted down the days in the year leading up to his retirement.

     After retiring in January 2016, he could be found spending much of his time in his beloved backhoe with a big smile on his face as he cleared trees, spread gravel, or did any other job he could conjure up as an excuse to use his favourite piece of farm equipment. The one thing Donny loved more than farming, though, was his family. There was not a mountain he wouldn’t climb for his family and he did everything in his power to keep them safe and happy, and of all his successes in life, that was his greatest. He will be missed by so many for his outgoing, positive nature, his infectious laughter and his willingness to lend a hand whenever needed.

     Donny was predeceased by his father John; nephew James Baluk; uncle Russell Bodnar; aunt Olga Nimetz and cousin Vincent Krochak. He is survived by his mother Helen, his wife Deborah, sons Michael, Jeremy (Tatyana), Evan (Kayla) and Ryan; sister Pat (Tom) Lyons of Benito, MB; sister Natalie (Dan) Baluk of Edmonton, AB; parents-in-law Mike & Phyllis Fedorchuk of Whitebeech, SK; sister-in-law Betty (Mike) Shevernoha of Whitebeech, SK; three nieces, three nephews and numerous cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts and uncles on his wife’s side of the family and many close friends.

Time has taken me from you,

Although not very far;

I’ll be watching through the sunshine,

And through the brightest star.

I’ll be watching all of you,

From the heavens up above;

So take good care of each other,

And carry all my love.

If you’re ever wondering if I’m there,

Here’s where you can start;

Take a look inside yourself,

Deep within your heart.

I’ll always be your husband,

Your father, your best friend;

So anytime you need me,

Close your eyes, I’m back again.

But most of all remember each day,

Right from the start;

I will be forever near,

For I live within your heart.
