Roy LaRocque Obituary

Roy, had no acquaintances, only conversations, hundreds of them. And once a conversation had been engaged, a friendship was born.
Roy was born the second oldest son to Allan and Mary Ann LaRocque (nee Lucas) in Lebret, SK. Roy attended school at Lebret and continued his studies at the University of Saskatchewan completing Teachers' College.  Roy met Elsie Schreiner in Lebret and they were married on November 29, 1958 at Barthel, SK., and were later blessed with 5 sons; Sidney, Russell, Mark, Harvey and Vernon.
Roy began his career at the Heavy Land School District in 1958, and in 1960 moved to Kamsack to start his federal civil service career at the St. Philip’s School. In 1970, Roy and Elsie bought a nearby acreage which they called home for 48 years.  In those years, those 10 acres held a lot of memories, five rambunctious boys were raised and a variety of small scale farming adventure were tackled. Including cows, chickens, pigs, bees and rabbits (yes, many, many more rabbits)!  Roy was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting, cross country skiing, fishing and even untangling a mess of fishing lines when seven lines got crossed.  He was competitive as well, one time challenging Sid to a casting competition and of who could cast the fishing hook the farthest?  Roy won; the line broke and Vernons' hook kept going!  He also enjoyed snowmobiling the long one mile to St. Philips School but never walked to school as he had done plenty of that when he was a child.
Roy will always be remembered for his cheerful smile and outgoing nature, leaving his family and friends to cherish his memory.
He will forever be missed by his loving wife of 60 years Elsie, his sons Sydney (Gail) grandchildren Crystal, Chad (Elissa), great grandchildren Anika and Austin, Russell (Lynne), grandchildren Geoffrey, Kennedy, Eric and Michael, Mark (Bernadine), grandchildren Justin (Cheryl), great grandchild Deacon, Tyson (Bobbie), great grandchild Elliott and Brayden Harvey (Tracy), grandchildren Ethan, Vernon (Roxane), grandchildren Kendra and Sarah sister Joan Holden, and brother George (Ladene), sister in law Gert (Fred).
Roy is predeceased by his parents Allan and Mary Ann LaRocque, sister and brother in laws Emmeline (Bill) Tosczak,  Yvonne (Ovide) Bourret, Irene (Joe) Perlich, Bill Holden, brother Wilfred, nieces Jackie Holden, Peggy Bollinger.
