Charlie Vance Friday was called home in the early morning hours of Friday, October 14, 2022 at Regina, Saskatchewan.  Charlie was the son of Dee Friday and his father and best friend, Lambert (Corrine) Cote, and Junior Driver. Charlie had a special place in his heart for Helene Cote they might have separated but he only wanted the best for her and he truly wished her well.

Charlie was predeceased by: Kohko Janet Friday, Winston Shingoose. Lorena Friday, Edith and Charles Cote, Lindsey Friday, Amanda Friday, Jasmine Friday, Martha Cote, Aunties Linda and Floydine. Uncles, Ronald, Keith, Blair, cousins Alfred LeCaine, Richard LeCaine and Terry Cote.

Charlie leaves to mourn his mother Dee Friday, sister Chrissy Friday, brothers; Devon Friday (Jennifer), Tyrell Driver, brother Ashley Friday, Trina (Sid) Shereen (Lyle) Brendon (Cassia), Lionel and Jaron. His uncles: Ray Friday, Vernie (Mona) Randy Friday, Ringo Friday, Dave (Terri Lynn), Irwin Friday, Leslie Friday, auntie Loretta (John) Friday and adopted sister Janna Stein

The cousins he leaves behind are:  Ray Friday Jr., Tessa, Viola, Chalia, Justin, Tina, Howard, Drezdan,   Teevaughn, Tara, Leah, Kayleen, Phoenix and Nevada, Randa, Randy Jr. Randon, Randel Drey, Rylen, Tyson, Alysa, Claudia, Dakota, Shania, Katie, Shyanne, Troy, Wendel, Rory, Brandon, Avery, Drew, Debra, Simone, Tron, Dominique, Peyton and Ashton and his son Ashton

Charlie was raised by his Kohko Janet Friday and Winston Shingoose,  his seven uncles, Lorena and Loretta.  He was raised with Ashley Friday,  Devon Friday and they called each other brothers because they were raised like that.  Chuck spent a lot of his growing up years in North Dakota and Leslie says he went away as a boy and came back a man.

Charlie was known as “Uncle Buck” to his nieces and nephews: Jarious, Demarious , Lataya (Lala), Aurora, Isaiah, Latrell, Alia, Jayden, Layla,  Feebee, Tyrell Jr, Kealand and Jacob and his special little friend, Marcus Badger. Charlie always gave nicknames to his cousins or nieces and nephews.  For example, Dakota was known as the Zooker. Oozokeys, and the list goes on.  He never referred to his sister by her name he only called her ig sis. in fact if he gave you a nickname that name would stick no matter what.

Charlie was well travelled places and he travelled to such as: New York City, Memphis, Nashville, Tennessee, Oklahoma City, Las Vegas, Cancun, Newtown, Deadwood, Kamloops, Banff, with his mother, auntie or uncles.  Charlie was quite the traveller and get this, he always came back with adventure stories.

When Charlie would come would travel home to visit he would camp at his dad and Charlie would always make sure that everyone was always happy. Charlie liked joking around and sitting with the family by the campfire.   Charlie could spend hours talking with his stepmother Corinne, he had lots of stories to share. Every time he texted his dad and Corinne it was for smokes, gas, McDonald's fries and he would send an emoji of a raccoon eating fries. When he came home to his dad’s house he would come eat, get food and dig around and once he put on his PJS we knew that he was staying for a few days. Charlie also spent time with his dad recently picking him up and taking him to his radiation treatment for six weeks At the Allan Blaire Centre in Regina. Charlie would buy lunch for the hospital staff and donate to his local church. This is a great loss for the entire family and friends Charlie was a great son, brother, uncle, cousin, teammate, and Friend. Charlie had a kind loving heart of gold, Chuck was very compassionate to everyone. We will miss Charlie very much this great loss will hurt us forever. it is time to let you begin your journey to heaven, be an Angel and work for the Lord.

Dedicated Oilers fan and Saskatchewan Roughrider fan and a fan of any sports, Charlie was a very loyal fan of the Oilers, and he would never miss on the drafts and the first round draft pic.  He was a collector of Oiler memorabilia, and he rarely missed watching the Oilers play.  He got his mother and uncles to join the Oiler wagon and he would know the Oiler stats from years gone by.  He also went to a Saskatchewan Roughrider game any time he had the opportunity and would cheer hard for them.   A true fan of those two teams and would remain a fan regardless of how they were making out.

For those that did not know Charlie he was a champion Jigger and square dancer.  Charlie would  travel to various events with the Cote Square Dance club.  He would gladly step in if a club called him and he could step right in with any club that he danced with.

Charlie played for Cote Selects hockey club and his teammates decided he would be captain because of his competitive nature and hard work while on the ice and he let everyone know that he was there to win. One time the Selects won 14 tournaments straight while he was captain, and his number was #21.  His team won the 2001 FSIN Hockey championship, Winter Games, and local tournaments. Chuck was a goal scorer a leader of his team.  14 goals at the Iron man Tournament and they played with one guy short.

When he was a YTC midget, he and his best friend Charles Keshane along with the team acquired the gold medal at the Winter games. These two guys worked hard and played harder on the ice.

Charlie could not watch hockey after he was finished with hockey because he said, “it was like a hungry person watching someone eat” so he rarely watched hockey once he was done playing.  He never said he was retired he only said, he was not playing.

Charlie was a founding member of the “Spaghetti Legs” hockey tournaments.  Charlie and his uncles started this tournament started because every time the “Selects” went out to play, they won.  Charles his three uncles decided that other players should play and be given the same opportunity that he had, and they should win too. So with this, the “Spaghetti Legs” hockey tournament was born.  The Selects, the old timers, the rec team and any interested players w. d be assigned a team and each team was broken up to split the players up to give it an even keel.  Even Sal Cote got in on this and stole his Kohkos spaghetti strainer to use as a trophy.  That must have been quite a site watching these teams celebrate with the Spaghetti strainer held high in the air.  That was almost 20 years ago and the tournament still is well attended and going strong to this day.

Volleyball Player, He played for St.Philips Volleyball team and he was a lot of fun and he got along with his classmates and teammates no matter what happened or how they were making out in the standings.

Musician, Drummer and guitar player.  Charlie played at the event Centre in New Town, North Dakota and this one time when the current band was visiting they needed a drummer.  Well there is Charlie and he jumped at the chance and jumped up on stage and much to the delight of the crowd, and the band he played with them.  Proud moment for his mother Dee.   He sure liked his music and he played the guitar as well when his family would jam.

Charlie stepped in and impressed his uncle Vernie Friday and Randy Friday.  His uncle Vernie would call him and Charlie with his flair, laughs and joking nature he would travel any chance he had with his uncles.  He and Vernie would be off to travel to various race tracks and horse sales in America or Canada and spend weeks gone to live at the stables at any track.  The one thing he was, is that he was reliable and he would stay with the horses if he had to or do whatever was needed of him in the barns.  Charlie was a hard worker and loved working with horses but more importantly he loved working with his uncles and with the horses.

We all knew Charlie as a Kind, thoughtful, humorous, and a prankster.  He would go out of his way to help and give anything away if he saw a person needed something more than he did.

Educated and qualified as an Educational  Assistant and more importantly he was a fluent speaker of the language taught by his kohko Janet Friday and Robert (ninkski) Cote.

It is also important to know that Charlie was a strong believer in prayer.  He prayed numerous times a day beginning with starting his day, at every meal, at 8 pm and with his family and friends anytime they asked him to say a prayer.

This one time he says to his mom lets have a code.  His mom responds,  “Til the cows come home”? he responds, “No mom, it’s the Eagle has landed” so after that every time they talked and if the conversation allowed his mother would laugh and say, “the Eagle has landed”?

Chuck had a few favorite sayings that he used when he had to and one was, “Shamay” “Killing it” or “Shamay, you get worse”   Charlie was outspoken and very sociable and one thing they he would do was speak his mind if he had something to say, he would keep the peace,  look after his mother, or even just to joke around.

Pallbearers are Josh Pratt, Sal Cote, Jason Pratt, Terrance Cappo (Tubba) Ashley Straightnose, and Darren Cote.

Honourary Pallbears are all his first cousins from the family.  Every cousin helped tremendously and they also got together and prepared his final resting place.

“We will love you forever Charlie,  Forever missed and never forgotten.”
