Judy was born to Tom & Eunice Ball on May 24th, 1948. She was born at home on the home quarter SW 16-34-32w1. Judy went to school at the Sunny Aisle country school where Margaret Whetstone (neighbor) taught. Based on stories, Judy and Margaret didn’t always see eye to eye. Judy moved from Pelly to Ponoka Alberta where she lived with her mother’s sister Rhoda. Judy worked for a few years at the hospital in Ponoka. Judy then moved to Northern Manitoba and worked as a cook in logging camps throughout northern Manitoba. She progressed to operating forestry equipment & ran several different types of equipment over the 30 years she worked in the logging field. Later in her career she worked in the Pas in the lumber mill and loading rail cars. During the time that she worked in the lumber industry, she became the first woman president to serve for the IWA union.

When her mother became sick in the mid 2000’s, she moved back to the farm to look after her mother and the farm. Judy always had a love of horses and riding. Over the years she had several different horses that she rode. She competed in several activities with the horses: Barrel Racing, Pole Bending, Team Penning etc. Later in her life she became fond of cats and had several at the farm. She took up trapping during her last 15 years of life and became very proficient at trapping beaver. The last couple of years she averaged over 100 beaver per summer. She loved being outside and cut her own firewood to heat her house until the end. Judy loved her horses and cats. She loved riding through the hills of the Swan River valley and being outdoors.
