Karen Marie Bodnaryk (nee Case) December 25, 1951 – September 16, 2025 Age 73
It is with deep sorrow and profound love that we announce the passing of Karen Marie Bodnaryk (nee Case) on September 16, 2025, in Kamsack, Saskatchewan, at the age of 73. Born on December 25, 1951, in Hamilton, Ontario, Karen was the cherished daughter of the late James Case and Lillian Case (nee Chapple).
Karen’s life was defined by her unwavering devotion to family, friends, and her community. She was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and cherished friend. Her family was the centre of her world, and nothing brought her more joy than spending time with those she loved. Whether it was watching her grandsons, Greyson and Lochlan Marchinko in their activities, travelling with her sisters, family gatherings, or cooking large dinners, Karen found true happiness in these moments.
She leaves behind her mother, Lillian, her daughter, Tami (Jason) Marchinko, her grandsons, Greyson and Lochlan, and her siblings Debra (Lorne - deceased) Smith, Marilyn (Fernand) Bourque, James (Donna) Case, Bruce (Carolyn) Case, and Allan (Carolyn) Case. Karen was also a beloved aunt to her nieces and nephews: Lisa Bourque, Robert Bourque, Alexandra (Brandon) Corke, Samantha (Brett) Leggat, Jennifer (Josh) Case, and Patrick Case, as well as eight great nieces and nephews who will always remember her with love.
Karen’s sense of purpose extended far beyond her family. She was an active member of the Kamsack community, where her work touched many lives. Her passion for service was evident in everything she did. She was a long-time member of Westminster Memorial United Church, a devoted supporter of the Eaglestone Lodge Personal Care Home, and a dedicated member and Past President of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #24 - Kamsack. Her commitment to youth development was equally profound. Karen served as a former Commanding Officer and current Civilian Instructor with the 633 Kamsack Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron, where she mentored and coached young leaders with care and dedication.
Karen’s contributions to her community did not go unnoticed. She was honoured with both the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012 and the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Medal in 2022, recognizing her lifelong dedication to service.
In her quieter moments, Karen enjoyed gardening and cooking, which she approached with the same care and enthusiasm she applied to everything.
Karen was predeceased by her grandparents, Arthur and Marguerite (nee Hannah) Chapple, William and Gladys (nee Nutter) Case, her father, James Case, her partner Frank Airriess, and her brother-in-law, Lorne Smith.
A celebration of Karen’s life will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Westminster United Church in Kamsack, Saskatchewan. A second celebration of her life will take place in Hamilton, Ontario, in the spring of 2026, with details to be announced at a later time.
