It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Kay (Katie) Belley, who passed away on Aug. 22, 2025, at the age of 97. She was a resident of the Manitoulin Centennial Manor in Little Current, ON, at that time. Kay was born on October 2, 1927, in the Ukraine. She immigrated to Saskatchewan with her parents, brother, and sister a few years later. On July 12, 1944, she married William (Bill) Malashewski and settled on a farm in the Shell River, MB, municipality. Together, Bill and Kay had a mixed farm. Bill tragically passed away in an accident in 1963. They had three children: Roman, Violet and Brian (Burnie). In 1964, she married her second husband, Peter Belley. They had two children: Kenny and Robert. Pete and Kay continued to farm, first in Manitoba, then they moved to the Kamsack, SK area, where they continued grain farming for many years. They purchased a house in Kamsack to relax and retire. Following Peter’s passing, Kay lived in Kamsack for many years before moving to Espanola, ON, to live with her daughter, Violet. Kay always kept busy on the farm. Whether it was raising her children, cooking, gardening, helping with the farming at seeding and harvest, or simply doing chores, she could always be found keeping busy somewhere. Kay took on the sport of curling, which she enjoyed very much. She loved to get together with teammates to play during the winter months. She enjoyed visiting with her lady friends and having coffee with them. She had numerous hobbies, including knitting, crocheting, doing puzzles (the more pieces the better), sitting by the water whenever possible, and taking many long walks. Kay is predeceased by her first husband, Bill, her second husband, Peter, her brother, John (Olga) Cherniatenski, her sister, Mary (Peter) Krushelniski, her parents, John and Martha Cherniatenski, her grandson, Kevin Rogers, her son-in-law, Percy Rogers, and her daughter-in-law, Dorothy Malashewski. She is survived by her five children: Roman Malashewski, Violet Rogers, Brian (Burnie) Malashewski (Judy), Ken Belley (Rosalie), and Robert Belley; grandchildren Shayne (Jamie) Rogers, Randy (Darlene) Malashewski, Jackie (Wade) Downer, Sharla (Andrew) Galliford, Nicole (Mike) Chessie, Rylie (Devin) Malashewski, Danielle Malashewski, Andrew Belley, Robert Belley Jr., Syd Belley and Sheranda Belley. Kay is also survived by many great-grandchildren and nieces & nephews. Donations in memory of Kay Belley may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Diabetes Association as tokens of remembrance.
