AFINSON, Lewis Gilbert June 7, 1925 – April 16, 2025 aged 99 years
Lewis was born on the farm in the Pelly area on June 7, 1925. He was the youngest child of a family of four born to Knut and Mabel Anfinson. Lewis went to school in the Pines District and completed grade nine. He then helped his parents on the farm and worked some for the neighbours, earning 25 cents and ours.
Soon after leaving school, he accepted the position of Secretary/Treasurer for the Pines District, a position that he held for a number of years. In 1951, he married Vivian How. The following November his dad died and together, he and his bride took over the family farm. In 1952, as a couple, they decided Pelly Fellowship Chapel would be their place of worship. Lewis was deacon there for many years. Lewis was a fix-it-guy. He received more satisfaction in repairing the machinery than driving it around the field all day. He owned a sawmill where he logged and sawed lumber for the buildings on the farm. Together with men from the church they logged and sawed the lumber for the Fellowship Church Manse in Pelly.
Lewis and Vivian raised their three children and fostered some that were in need of a good home. Those were busy and good years, taking their children to various events, going fishing and family times together. In 1975, the opportunity came to sell fluid milk, they did until 1985. In 1985, they sold the farm and moved to the village of Pelly. There Lewis continued to do many jobs: working for farmers, carpentry, painting and many fix it things. He also did much volunteering. He was on the Pelly Housing Board for 26 years, The Fort Pelly-Livingston Museum Board, and together with another man they built a clay oven, where much bread and buns have been baked, also with the help of others, he restored the St. Alban Anglican Church and volunteered with the Fort Livingston Heritage Guild.
Lewis spent the last year of his life with his wife at the Preeceville Care Home. Lewis is survived by his wife, Vivian of 73 years, his children Gloria, Harley , Marvin grandchildren Justin (Monica), Amanda (Jeremy) LaRose, Stacy (Dillon), Trevor (Myka) great grandchildren Samatha, Jared, Danny Anastacia, Scarlet, Charlie, Dominic and Kylee and his niece Linda (Paul) Strickland and her daughter Donna and her family from Ontario.
Memorial Service was held April 26, 2025 from Pelly Fellowship Chapel, Pelly, Saskatchewan. Interment took place at Greenwood Cemetery, Pelly District, Saskatchewan.
