On March 12, 1938, Marie was born to Stephen and Anna (née Dereworiz) Barabash in the St. Phillip’s district. She attended St. Basilian School. When her family moved into Kamsack, she found employment as a waitress at various cafes. While working at the Armstong Café, she met the love of her life, Albert Hudye. They were married at St. Josaphat’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Kamsack on November 17, 1956. They settled on the Hudye farm just east of Kamsack where she worked hard raising chickens and pigs, milking cows and tending to both a bountiful vegetable and beautiful flower garden. Together, they welcomed four daughters, Terri (Teresa), Judy, June and Cindy.
Marie was devout in her faith and was very involved with the church and spent countless hours volunteering at the hall, cooking and serving food. After Albert was unable to farm due to poor health, Marie found employment as a cook at a few various restaurants in town. She went on to manage the Servery at the KCI, making food that both the students and teachers enjoyed. After retiring, Marie continued to keep busy; gardening, cooking and helping at the hall. Her hands were always busy, crocheting the many afghans we all enjoy and writing beautiful Pysanka (Ukrainian Easter Eggs).
Family was extremely important to Marie, whether it was her immediate family or the large extended Hudye family. She loved visiting with all and was a wonderful hostess. As her own family grew and expanded, she would beam with delight when all were gathered in her home, be it Christmas, Easter or birthdays.
In 2020, Cindy, Michael and their family built a home in the same yard on the family farm. Their loving care and attention enabled Marie to stay in her home until her death which was one of her greatest desires.
Marie entered eternal rest on Friday, November 7, 2025 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre surrounded by the family that she loved so dearly. She is now reunited with her beloved Albert.
She was predeceased by her husband Albert, daughter Judy, son-in-law Kurt, father Stephen, mother Anna, stepmother Mary, infant sister Stephania, brother John, nieces Glenda, Frances and Shirley, nephews Robert, Lorne and Lyle. Her in-laws, Joseph & Annie. Her sisters-in-law and their husbands, Vicky (Alex) and Gloria (Ed), brothers-in-law and their wives, Laurence (Stephania) and Gerald (Shirley).
She is survived by her daughters, Terri (Lorne), June (Paul) and Cindy (Michael), grandchildren, Jenn (Albert), Chris (Courtney), Jessica (Cory), Dani (Joseph), Tyler, Mark, Holly (Jesse), Courtney (Martin), Marzipan, and Meesha, great-grandchildren Emma (Colton), Leah, Jack, Rachel, Orah, Zach, Felicity, Lydia, Ella, Lukasz, Hannah, and Levi, sister in law, Mary Barabash, many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends and her little furry friends, Licorice, Dorito and Milky.
