It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Orest Sych, a devoted brother, uncle, and friend, who departed this world peacefully on January 7, 2025, after a brave battle with Diabetes and other ailments. Orest was born on September 14, 1938, to Wasyl and Anna (nee Sych) in Maybridge, Saskatchewan. He attended primary and elementary school in a one-room schoolhouse not far from the homestead where he was born. A farmer at heart,
Orest took over the family land after his father's passing. He found deep satisfaction, responsibility, and meaning in this work, often reaping a bountiful harvest that he generously shared with family and friends. One of Orest's most commendable achievements was becoming an accomplished blacksmith and welder. In 1965, he and his brothers established their own business, Arran Blacksmith & Welding, in Arran, Saskatchewan.
Orest was a true metalsmith, shaping iron and steel with his abundance of tools to bend, hammer, and cut. He was always obliging and incredibly successful when his siblings humbly requested seemingly impossible metal art projects. Welding was his skill, his language, and his solace—connecting him with his siblings and leaving a legacy for his family.
Orest was predeceased by Parents: Anna & Wasyl, Brother: Peter Sych Sisters: Sylvia Sas, Olga Monastyrski, Irene Antony. He is survived by Brothers: Don (Sharon) Sych, Russell (Ellen) Sych Sisters: Anastasia (Roman) Yereniuk, Cathy (Clarie) Zawatsky, brother-in-law's Mike Sas, Taras Monastyrski, Dave Antony, sister-in-law Stella Sych, and all their Families.
Orest will be remembered for his kindness, creativity, and dedication to maintaining All Saints Ukrainian Orthodox Church. He had a deep love for his family. He will be greatly missed by his loved ones, special school friends, and everyone who knew him. However, his spirit lives on through the ironworks he created, the lives he touched, and the cherished memories made with family and dear friends in Maybridge, Arran, Pelly, Kamsack, and Madge Lake. May he rest in peace.
