Raymond Dyky Obituary

***The recording of the funeral service will be posted, we apologize for any inconvenience.

Raymond was born at home, in the Dobrowody District, as the second eldest child to John and Mary Dyky (nee Belitski). He and his siblings were raised on a farm 7 miles NE of Rama. Raymond attended Dobrowody School from Grade 1 to Grade 8. Raymond eventually started his working years mining at the coal mine in, Thompson, MB. His next job was in Calgary, at a body shop and following this, he worked at the Chrysler auto plant in Windsor, ON. After his father’s passing in 1964, he returned to Rama to take over the family farm. In 1969, Raymond met the love his life, Christine Agnes Wolkowski at dance in Rama. She was swept off her feet by his dancing skills. They were married February 7, 1970 in Rama, SK and started their family soon after. Raymond and Christine were blessed with four sons; Shawn who entered this world on August 15, 1970, Sheldon was born March 18, 1972, Sherwin was born March 2, 1973 and their fourth son, Shane was the final addition on September 11, 1978. They continued to farm and raise their young family on the Dyky family farm until 1988. Raymond and Christine and the 4 boys, moved into Rama to take over Christine’s parents business, a service station located along highway 5. On July 1, 1990, there was a tragic car accident that claimed the lives of Sheldon & Sherwin and would change the Dyky family, forever. Raymond & Christine closed the service station in 2005 and began to enjoy life as retirees. Ray continued to dabble in farming in his retirement when he helped local farmers with seeding and harvest. Raymond had a special love for horses.  Anyone that knew Ray well, had a ride on his carriage or sleigh behind his team of horses at some point. Raymond was very involved in his community and spent much of his time as an RM Councilor, Local School Board Trustee, Rama Rec Board, volunteer and coaching many of the various teams the boys played on. There was nobody that loved a good fiddle song more than Raymond and he expressed that love through dancing. He was never one to sit through a Kolomeyka, Polka or Two-Step. In his retirement, Raymond developed a new love for woodworking and spent a lot of time in his garage building furniture. The thing that Raymond loved the most though, was being with people, especially his family. He never hid his love for the people he cared the most about and was happiest when his house was full of friends and family.

On April 23, 2024, Raymond went into hospital and never returned home. He was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and fought a very courageous but short battle. Raymond passed away on May 27, 2024 surrounded by his family at the Hospice at Glengarda in Saskatoon, SK.

Raymond is survived by his wife of 54 years, Christine, sons; Shawn (Jenn), Shane (Terra). Grandchildren; Carson, Jarett (Abby), Chase, Jenna, Reese, Grayson & Zayley; siblings, Edmund (Natalie) Dyky, Larry Dyky, Violet (Metro) Chornomitz.
