HELMKAY, Sharon Lee Born May 4, 1947 – March 2, 2025. Aged 77 years
Sharon Lee Helmkay born May 4, 1947, of Kamsack, Saskatchewan passed away on March 2, 2025, after a courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis.
Sharon was predeceased by her first husband, Byron Liebrecht and second husband, Robert (Bob) Helmkay; her parents, Joseph and Mary Maccala; and her sister, Bonnie Cameron. She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Shannan Vereschagin (Brian) ant Shanneen Goszulak (Jeff); her grandchildren, Dylan, Carter, and Elyse Vereschagin; and her brother, Dale Maccala (Mandy).
Sharon enjoyed connecting with those from near and far who visited their loved ones in the Kamsack Nursing Home and appreciated all those who stopped by to say hello. Sharon also supported many newcomers to the nursing home, as well as their spouses, as they navigated this challenging transition.
This was her home, and she appreciated the compassionate care she received for which her family is eternally grateful.
Sharon loved to laugh, and it was heartwarming to witness the playful teasing she would receive from staff and give right back. Sharon looked forward to her family's visits that brought her joy and laughter but most importantly, ice cream. She loved when the grandchildren joined her in the daily activity, played the piano, and colored beautiful pictures to brighten her room.
Sharon was a loyal Blue Jays and Riders fan and a devoted curling and figure skating enthusiast. In her years prior, Sharon and Robert cherished a beautiful love and many wonderful summers together in their flower-filled yard watching the hummingbirds, robins, and jays that faithfully visited. Sharon was a compassionate spirit and despite her devastating losses, including her mobility, she demonstrated a strength and perseverance that touched hearts and inspired many. The family appreciates all who asked about her and passed along well wishes throughout her life.
To respect Sharon's wishes, there will not be a formal celebration of life. To honour our sweet Sharon, immediate family will share an intimate gravesite service this summer, her favorite season. We invite anyone who supported her care, her close friends and witness family to attend. Details to follow. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Kamsack Nursing Home Auxiliary.
