Walter Hladun
December 27, 2016
Hladun, Walter – April 4, 1934 – December 27, 2016, entered eternal rest suddenly at his farm in the Kamsack District at the age of 82 years. Walter was born the fourth son of George and Anne Hladun (nee Sadiwnyk) and was the sixth oldest of twelve children. He attended school at Pretty Valley, which was south of the farm homestead. Walter also took a mechanical course in Winnipeg and worked in Regina, until the start of his farming career. Walter had met Alice Nicholaichuk at a wedding of Walter's brother, Ernest. They were married on August 20, 1954 and then moved to the present farm in 1955.
The farming started with the Dairy, which Walter and Alice took over from Alice's father. Hard work and long hours, until the Dairy ended in 1976 and then the Grain farming began.
Walter's greatest joy and passion was farming, although he did make sometime for fishing. He had season tickets for the Saskatchewan Roughriders and even attended Grey Cup games in Regina and Winnipeg. His favourite hockey team was the Toronto Maple Leafs. His favourite baseball team was the Blue Jays and enjoyed watching them play, especially this past season.
Walter loved to reminisce about the old times and how life was when he was growing up. He was very involved in the community with the Yorkton Co-op Board and the Credit Union Board for a number of years.
Walter and Alice were blessed with four children; Arlene, Linda, Brenda and Kelly, six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, whom Walter always asked about.
Walter, Alice and the family did a little travelling to Ontario in the early years. One of Walter's fondest trips was when he and Alice did a bus tour to British Columbia and later another trip to EXPO in Vancouver.
He leaves to cherish his memory wife Alice of 62 years, daughters; Arlene (Delbert) Kindiak, Linda (Warren) Weber, Brenda and her friend Lyle and son; Kelly.
