Leniuk, Metro (Matt) April 23, 1915 – November 30, 2014, aged 99 years, passed away peacefully at the Theodore Health Centre in Theodore, Sk. Metro was born on April 23rd. 1915 in the Tiny District to Fred and Katherine Leniuk.  Metro attended Tiny School. During his early years, especially during the winter evenings, he enjoyed playing the violin and the button accordion.  His brother John often accompanied him on the guitar.  Since he played the violin so well he played at quite a few house parties.  He also enjoyed the radio, reading newspapers and later watching TV.

Metro’s main interest was farming which he did for close to 40 years until about age 55.  Through necessity he became a good carpenter, building granaries, sheds, lean to barns and even his own two-room house.

When Metro’s health started to fail he rented his farms. Due to Metro’s declining health, his sister Natalie and her family had him stay with them, which he did for 15 years. During which time he helped with light chores and went on family outings. Metro still yearned to live on his own farm in his two-room house however the doctors’ advice was for him to be placed under the supervision of the public trustee.  The public trustee placed him in several supervised homes.  Metro spent 21 years with the Stroud family, first with Harold and Pat near Arran and later with Brad and Phyllis in Yorkton.  During his stay in these excellent homes Metro enjoyed various activities such as fishing, shopping, church and many visitations from brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.  His last living arrangement was at the Theodore Health Centre, where in his quiet nature, he enjoyed all the entertainment, loving and caring services of the staff.

Metro is survived and will be missed by sisters Natalie Pysemny and Mabel Philipiew, brother John Leniuk, sister in law Ella Leniuk and by many nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was predeceased by his parents, brothers; Bill, Peter, Paul, Mike, Jacob, and sisters; Annie and Mary.

The family expresses their sincere appreciation and thanks to the staff at the Theodore Health Centre for the love and care given to Metro during his stay there.

Funeral Service was held December 5, 2014 from the Chapel of Wolkowski Funeral Service – Canora, with Very Rev. Fr. J. Rac officiating. Interment followed at the Canora Cemetery. Memorial donations in memory of Metro may be made to a charity of choice. Those so wishing may leave a note of condolence for the family by visiting Wolkowski.ca
