Katherine (Kay) Pelechaty Obituary

PELECHATY, (Katie) Katherine Pelechaty born October 14, 1924 – June 13, 2018 aged 93 years.

Katherine was born on the family farm in the St. Philip’s District to Sam and Mary Dereworiz (nee Yakopchuk).  She grew up on the family farm and attend St. Bascilian School.  In 1949, she married Steve Pelechaty at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.  They then purchased their farm and were blessed with one son, Mervin.  She was kept very busy raising chickens, pigs, milking cows and had a large garden.  After the passing of her husband she moved into a house in the town of Kamsack, where she continued to plant flowers and grow a garden until her failing health forced her to into the Kamsack and District Nursing Home in January 2018.

She was a member of St. Josaphat’s Ukrainian Catholic Church and also the Ukrainian Catholic Ladies League at Kamsack, where she enjoyed making perogies and socializing with the ladies.  She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting.

Her two grandchildren Melanie and Greg were the highlight of her life.  When they were little she enjoyed playing cards and games with them.  We all knew that Baba had rules and she would enforce them when she felt she should.  She had kept many pictures and newspaper clippings of their achievements as they progressed in their lives.  When her great grand daughter was born she was always very concerned about her wellbeing and was amazed as how fast she was growing.

She is survived by her son Mervin (Debbie,) two grandchildren Melanie (Trent) and Greg (Sarah), great granddaughter Sydney Marie Pelechaty, sister-in-laws Nellie Dereworiz, Stephanie Pelechaty and Alice Pelechaty along with many nieces and nephews.

Prayer Service was held June 17, 2018 and Funeral Mass was held on June 18, 2018 both from St. Josaphat’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, Kamsack, SK. Interment was held at Riverview Cemetery, Kamsack, SK. With Father Warren Duncan officiating.  Those so wishing may make memorial donation to Assumption of St. Mary Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery – St. Philip’s District or to Kamsack and District Nursing Home Auxiliary.
