Edward M. Brezinski Obituary

Brezinski, Edward Michael born April 24, 1932 – April 24, 2021, aged 89 years.

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Edward.  Edward was born in the Invermay District to parents Stanley and Anna (Derkatch) Brezinski.

After the death of his father, at the tender age of 17 years, Edward continued the farming operations and continued to care for his mother.  In 1965, while living on the farm, Edward was a member of Buchanan Board of Trade.  In 1968, Edward moved to Buchanan and got involved in community functions and affairs. In 1972 he supervised the construction of the skating rink, volunteered in operating the sound system plus other functions. Edward organized the Club 50 Plus, and the Seniors Place was involved in the Club Campsite and built the kitchenettes.  Edward was the caller at community bingo, in charge of sports day gates, chairman of Club 50 and in charge of fundraisers, tickets, BBQ and wiener roasts.  Much of all this was during 19 years as mayor of Buchanan.

In 1986, Edward was vice-chair of Buchanan History Book, President of St. Ann’s Church, a member of 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus. Edward was the builder of the Santa Maria K. of C Park float, which was used at various parades, including Weyburn. He volunteered at the 2005 community celebrations and organized the 100th birthday of Buchanan 2007.

Edward was a board member of Buchanan Homemakers Service and served as vice and chairman.  He was a board member of Canora Home Care District #35 for seven years and was also a member of the Canora Road Ambulance for 19 years and served as chairman.

Edward was a board member of Canora Union Hospital for 19 years, where he served on the executive board and vice-chairman. He was a board member of Yorkton-Melville Health Region for 19 years and was chairman of District #5. He served on the Canora D.C.C board representing the Canora Hospital and Buchanan Housing Authority.  He was a board member of the Canora Gateway Lodge for 16 years. Also was manager of Buchanan Housing Authority. During some spare time, Edward built many Purple martin houses and other things, including all the wooden benches for the Grotto at Rama, Saskatchewan.

He leaves to mourn his brothers; Edmund (Isabel) Brezinski, Bernard (Sylvia) Brezinski, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Edward was predeceased by his parents, Stanley and Ann (Derkatch) Brezinski, sisters Adela (Mike) Kowalyshyn, Helen (Mike) Yasinski, Steffie (Steve) Wionzek, Lena (Philip) Bugera, Rose (Louis) Wolkowski.

Charitable Donations in memory of Edward can be made to St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church Buchanan, Saskatchewan.
