Gwyn Shankowsky Obituary

Shankowsky, Gwyneth Doreen October 13, 1952 – March 15, 2019, loving wife of Garry, mother to two, baba to 4 entered into eternal rest at the Kamsack Hospital at the age of 66 years.

Gwyn was born in Melville, to Alan and Delphine Reid, the oldest of 6 children, she had 5 brothers.  On January 19, 1974, Garry and Gwyn got married and moved to Pelly, where they had two children, Derek and Christopher.  The family moved to the farm where they currently live in 1988.  Gwyn received her Bachelor of Education in 1984, from University of Regina. She retired after putting her heart and soul into teaching a variety of classes and grades in Pelly, for 32 years. Gwyn loved to teach and realized she still had more to give, so she went on to work at Parkland College in Kamsack for another 7 years.  Gwyn was a woman of so many passions, but always put her husband, children and grandchildren first.  The plentiful meals from her kitchen were never ending and always creative. She enjoyed trying new recipes but took great care in preparing all of her family's favorites.  She spent much of her energy meticulously decorating her home and the farm yard, as her showy flower gardens reflect.  Art was also something Gwyn would try to find time for, she had a great eye and was very talented with a paintbrush and canvas and many other mediums she worked with.

Volunteering in a small community is something people just do, and she did!  Gwyn will surely be missed at the Pelly Benefit Jamboree, as she was the mistress of ceremonies for many years and could also be found in the kitchen with numerous pancake breakfasts throughout the year.  She also spent many evenings working and calling Bingo.  Not to mention the sports teams she coached and the school extracurricular activities she took care of.

Gwyn had a very long battle with Cancer, first breast cancer in 2009 and then in 2012 it came back in her liver.  She has endured countless chemo treatments regularly since Sept. 2012.  An inspiring journey to all, she always did everything with her trademark smile, never complained and during this entire battle she continued to take care of every daily task she always did, she did it all because she loved life and her family.

Gwyn is survived by her mother Delphine Reid, loving husband Garry, sons Derek (Shana) and Christopher (Tricia),grandchildren Alexis, Hunter, Brody and Slade, brothers Ken (Pat), Keith (Cynde), Grant (Jo-Anne) Reid as well as several nieces and nephews.  Gwyn is predeceased by her father Alan Reid and her brothers Tom and Lloyd.
