Larry Vereschagin Obituary

VERESCHAGIN, Larry P. – born December 4, 1933 to January 17, 2021. Beloved husband of Mary (nee Trofimenkoff) of over 62 years.  Larry passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, January 17, 2021 at the age of 87.

Born and raised on the family farm northeast of Verigin, SK to Peter George Vereschagin & wife Annie (nee Vanjove). Larry was the fourth of five children.

Larry first attended the Whitesand farm school then transitioned to school in Verigin, SK and finished out his high school years in Kamsack, SK.

After school, Larry farmed a portion of the homestead with his mother prior to moving to Kamsack permanently.  In the summer of 1958, he married Mary. The next decades were filled with building and raising a family; spending time with extended family and friends; caring for his mother with whom he was very close; and occasionally playing recreational baseball, hockey and curling.  Over the years, Larry was employed as a clerk in various local businesses including Marshall Wells; MacLeods; and a farm equipment retail outlet.  He also tried his hand at operating a retail business and worked as a caretaker of the local mall prior to retirement.

Larry was always involved in volunteering in the community and could often be found at the local rink, sports grounds or other community events.  Larry could always be counted on to buy and sell raffle tickets for various local community causes.

In later years, Larry took great joy in watching his grandchildren and great grandson’s grow; supporting the Roughriders and TeleMiracle; gardening; attending community events; attending auctions and garage sales; and holding his own garage sales.  His greatest pleasure were his daily trips downtown to run errands and spending time on coffee row on a twice daily basis.

Larry is survived by his wife, Mary; his five children, Jeff (Deb) Vereschagin of Meadow Lake, SK; Chris Vereschagin of Madge Lake, SK; Dean (Eva) Vereschagin of Loon Lake, SK; Anna Vereschagin of Toronto, ON; and Jon Vereschagin of Clearwater, BC.; his four grandchildren, Katrina and Krystal Vereschagin of Edmonton, AB, Sean Gould (Natasha Lewis) of St. Alberta, AB, and Josh Vereschagin (Brianne Gagnon) of Edmonton, AB as well as four great grandsons; Jacob and Marcus Gould and Maksim and Rhys Vereschagin.

Larry is also survived by his younger sister Irene (Bernie) Sorenson of Tucson, Arizona; many nieces and nephews; several cousins and many friends in the Kamsack and area community.

Larry was predeceased by his parents; his sister Polly (Wes) Gorkoff of Kamsack; sister Vera Norton of Portland, Oregon; brother Harry (Sheila) of Delta, BC; his niece Margaret Gorkoff of Calgary, AB; nephew Marty Costello of Portland, Oregon and many friends and coffee buddies, most recently Pete Uhlow.

In accordance with Larry’s wishes, he has been cremated and no service will be held. A private family internment will be held at a later date.  Donations in the name of Larry may be made to the Kamsack & District Nursing Home Auxiliary.  To leave a note of condolence for the family please visit Wolkowski.ca
