Vernon Seversen Obituary

SEVERSEN, Vernon (Vern) Richard born May 23, 1950 – February 2, 2020 aged 69 years.

On Sunday, February 2, 2020, Vern carried on his journey from this earth.  Vern was born on May 23, 1950 at Kerrobert, SK., the eldest of six children born to Andrew and Elsie (nee Ball) Seversen. In 1958, the family moved to Pelly, SK., to take over the Ball farm and where Vern and his siblings were raised and went to school.

After high school, Vern went to university for a few years but was unsure what career he wanted to pursue.  In 1972, he joined the RCMP and upon completion of training was posted to Surrey, B.C. in 1974, he married Lynnette (nee Haig) of Leross, SK., but Saskatchewan was calling and in 1975 they bought and moved to the Alec Kondratoff farm near Pelly.  Thus, began his farming career of 45 years.

Vern was very civic minded and took part in volunteer work as well as being a counselor in the R.M. of St. Philips for 12 years and a member of the board of education of Kamsack, Canora and Sturgis.

Vern was a lover of most sports and spent hours playing hockey, curling, and ball.  He also coached many young players of these games.  He especially enjoyed his involvement with the Pelly Saints hockey team and the lasting friendships that were formed.

Vern is survived by his wife, Lynnette of 45 years. His sons Todd (Sarah) and children Avery and Easten.  Andrew (Michelle) and children Jordyn, Ryder and Trace. His siblings, Donna Lulashnyk and sons Joel (Marla) and Ben (Natalia) and their children, Belle Marie (Larry) Sutherland and family, Kent (Jolene) Knox, Rae (Terry) Goodman and Joni (Jabin) and their families, Karen (Bernie) Vogel and sons Neil and Jorden (Lori) and family, Wade (Debbie) and their children; Jason and Michelle, Sigurd (Lori) and their children Dalton, Hayley (Chris) Hague and Beau, Taylor and Jarret.

Brother in law Robert (Cyndi) Haig and their daughters Deanna, Bobbie (Todd) Schutz, and Lacee (Kris) Heller and their families, Sid Farkas and children Tiffiny (Tyler) and Robert (Ashlie) and their families, as well as his extended family and much loved friends.

Vern was predeceased by his parents Andrew and Elsie, and parents in law George and Mary Haig, much loved brother in law Russel Lulashnyk and sister in law Elaine Farkas.

He loved seeing his grandchildren and hearing about their achievements.  He liked nothing better than being with his children and grandchildren to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries and all the high holidays.  He was always up for a cruise to see the crops, calves, combining and seeding.  He also enjoyed going to the rinks to watch hockey, curling and skating.  Stopping for coffee was especially enjoyable.

As his health began to fail he became a resident of Norquay Health Centre.  Here too, he made friends with the residents and the staff.  He greeted everyone with a smile and a wave.  His gentle, caring nature became very evident.

We thank his Norquay Health Centre family for the love, care and respect shown to him and his family.  He really did appreciate everything that was done for him.  His friends George, Sonjia and Reynald as well as others residents were held in high regard.
