SMITH, William (Bill) Nels Born September 1, 1939 – September 23, 2021 aged 82 years
William “Bill” Nels Smith was a caring husband, father, grandfather and friend. After a long battle with cancer, Bill passed away on September 23rd, 2021, at the age of 82.
Born in Lethbridge, Alberta, to William and Rita Smith in 1939, he was the eldest of seven siblings: Alice, Patricia, Donna, Mark, Kenneth, and Glen. In his younger years, Bill worked as a mechanic and a surveyor for highways before meeting his wife-to-be Darlene in Picture Butte, Alberta. Bill and Darlene wed and moved to Calgary where they raised their two sons David and Bruce.
Bill and Darlene lived in Calgary until his retirement from the Firestone tire plant as a supervisor. In 1977, Bill and Darlene purchased a farm in Stenen, Saskatchewan where they farmed and enjoyed the company of family and friends. When they retired, they moved to live in the town of Canora, Saskatchewan.
Bill is survived by his loving wife Darlene Smith, his sons David and Bruce Smith, his brother Glen and sisters Alice and Donna and lots of nieces and nephews. Bill will be greatly missed and forever remembered by his wife, sons, grandchildren and extended family.
A family graveside service was held on September 25, 2021 from Canora Cemetery, Canora, SK., with Karry-Ann Nunn celebrating.
