Deighton, Ronald – January 28, 1929 – November 2, 2015 passed away peacefully at the Canora Hospital at the age of 86 years.

Ron was born in the Good Spirit Lake District to parents Harold and Doris Deighton (nee Potter) on what was believed to be a cold and snowy day. Ron completed his grade 12 in Canora and shortly thereafter began employment with Canadian National Railway. In 1947, Ron and his brother Ken, who worked for Canada Post, switched jobs. Ron began work for Canada Post and continued working for them for the next 37 years. Near the end of his career, Ron was the Regional Postmaster for many of the local Post Offices, something he was very proud of.

While a patient in the Canora Hospital on one occasion, Ron met a cute nurse aid by the name of Vera Predy. They were married July 29, 1952 and were blessed with three children Darryl, Brent and Renee.

In 1982 Ron, Vera and Darryl began to expand Canora Beach Resort.

After 37 years and finally retiring in 1984, Ron dedicated his retirement to the Beach. Meeting with campers, maintaining and expanding the campground and enjoying the lake became Ron’s passion. His strong work ethic was evident by the long hours of dedication that he gave to the beach.

In 1989, Ron and Vera built a cabin at Canora Beach. A place that they had loved for many years and now finally began to live it with their own place.

Ron was also very involved with many sports teams and the community of Canora during his life.  He was often acting as a member of the executive but always there to lend a helping hand for the cause. Ron was also a member of the Kiwanis Club. Ron enjoyed some time away as well. One of his favorite times was travelling to visit family and friends.

Ron is survived by his two sons; Darryl, Brent (Gail), grandchildren; Tawni (Marcel), Erin, Erica and by brother Ken (Esther). Ron is predeceased by his parents; Harold and Doris, wife Vera, daughter Renee, granddaughter Taylor, brother Doug.
