We are deeply sorry to hear about Bill's passing. We will always have positive memories of Bill while we lived and worked in Canora. Bill was an excellent vice-principal. He had students interests at heart. He was a good teacher, and a good friend in and out of school. Our deepest sympathies to Colleen and the entire family.

I remember Bill from my coaching days. He was always a kind and friendly man who seemed to be well respected by all his players. I remember one specific time when we travelled to a district tournament that he was running and between bad roads and an accident, we were delayed by several hours. He was very understanding and allowed us to still play all our games. It may seem to be a small thing but I know it meant a lot to our whole team....I'm sorry for your family's loss as I'm sure you were just as kind and understanding in their lives as well.

I was one of Bill's first students and enjoyed him as a teacher and a coach. I remember how proud he was of his career and family. I had the good fortune to know him as a fellow teacher and administrator and will miss his easy going sense of humour and love for kids. Rest peacefully Mr. Summers - Dion.

I have nothing but good memories of Mr. Summers. I remember his first day in Crystal Springs, we were absolutely amazed that a teacher dared to show up for class in a track suit. A TRACK SUIT!! All other PhysEd teachers had coached us in suits and high heels! He taught us how to write cheques and balance a chequing account. We learned the meaning of "Heads up!",looking at him quizzically as a ball raced toward our heads. We were devastated when he left us for Kinistino, but so happy when he came as a guest speaker for our 1986 grad. And now I am devastated once again that he is gone. Heartfelt condolences to the Summers family, the world has lost a treasure.

Today we say final goodbye to Bill. It has been a long and difficult journey that has cut Bill's life short way too early. Bill handled his illness with a quiet dignity and never complained. Colleen who had relied on Bill's strength all her life was forced into a leadership role in the last two years of their 40+ year marriage. Although Bill became a man of few words I know he appreciated the care and devotion he was shown by his whole family.
Distance keeps our family away from the funeral but our thoughts and prayers are with your family today and always.
Love from Auntie Pat, Uncle Phil, Jenny and Jay, Daniel and Jamie, and Jeff. Xoxox

My sincerest condolences. Bill was a good friend who, while I had the good fortune to meet him while I worked in Canora, was always there to help, advise and support me. I have often thought about the times we would enjoy a couple of drinks together while solving the problems of the world. Bill was one of my positive memories of my time in Canora, I am so glad that I have great memories of him as a friend and fellow teacher to carry with me. To his family I hope you will always remember the best of Bill and cherish those memories as you struggle with your loss today.

I first met Bill about 15 years ago at a coaching clinic, since then he was a coach mentor and the sole reason I got involved with the SHA. We both taught clinics together and we had many good times doing so filled with laughs, beer and nacho's, I am going to miss Bill. May you find strength in the future knowing that he meant a lot to my development as a hockey coach and facilitator.

Bill, I am proud to have called you my teacher, coach, principal, mentor, colleague & friend. I became a Phys Ed teacher because of the influence you had on me as a student. You were a fatherly figure to me. When you spoke, I listened & I learned. Your wisdom, integrity, & calm nature was second to none. I will miss you dearly.

Just for fun tonight, I will sit on a backwards chair and watch the sun set and toast one of the greatest men I have ever had the pleasure of knowing.
